Welcome to Fort Washington, DC.
If you, or someone you love, thinks that coming to Washington, DC for the Inauguration of the 44th President would be neat, allow me to make a suggestion. Don't. That's it. Don't. Stay home. Watch it from your sofa, love seat, recliner or sprawled out in your bean bag chair. It will be considerably more comfortable, you will have access to restrooms and snacks and best of all, you will not be subjected to the guilty until proven innocent body cavity searches that everyone else will have to go through.
In case you think I am kidding, just pick up a copy of the Washington Post or read WTOP. The security measures for this Inauguration are so severe that they have already put up concrete barriers three blocks away from the White House and set them so that they will barely funnel two people walking side by side. Those of us that live and work in this area have watched the preparations for the better part of the last three months and it is only getting worse. Where you can walk has been reduced and you now have to go blocks out of your way just to get where you want to go.
This Inaugration is going to be historic. But what does it say when the locals have no intention of going anywhere near the events?
